Best albums of 2010

I know it’s already well into 2011 already but I have only just gotten around to working out my favourite albums of 2010.

It’s always difficult with these lists, as most albums take around six months to grow on me to become favourites, so albums released late in the year tend to get overlooked on these lists. They might become favourites the year after.

Perhaps I’ll revisit the list mid-year and update with any slow growers.

Anyway, my favourite albums of 2010:

The Suburbs – The Arcade Fire

A-Z Volume 1 – Ash

Reinterpreting the Masters Volume 1 – The Bird and the Bee

Modern Day Addiction – Clare Bowditch and the Feeding Set

Here Lies Love – David Byrne & Fatboy Slim

End Times – Eels

Tomorrow Morning – Eels

Ages – Lorraine Feather

Lonely Avenue – Ben Folds & Nick Hornby

Darkness Sure Becomes This City – Joy Kills Sorrow

The Men I Love – Barb Jungr

Love to Live – The Living Sisters

Stages – Halie Loren

Lost – The Lovetones

Sweet and Wild – Jewel

Realism – Magnetic Fields

Postcards from a Young Man – Manic Street Preachers

Heligoland – Massive Attack

A Curious Thing – Amy McDonald

Leave Your Sleep – Natalie Merchant

Crows – Allison Moorer

Expressions – Music Go Music

If I Had a Hifi – Nada Surf

Together – The New Pornographers

Mojo – Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

Moses on a Snail – Robert Pollard

Body Talk – Robyn

Majestic Shredding – Superchunk

The Wild Hunt – The Tallest Man on Earth

Sacrifice – Teenagersintokyo

Love and Its Opposite – Tracey Thorn

Mixed Race – Tricky

Volume 2 – She & Him

Here’s the Tender Coming – The Unthanks

All Days Are Nights – Rufus Wainwright

Hurley – Weezer

The following albums released late in the year sound like albums I will like, but I have not yet listened to them enough to become favourites:

The Mad Straight Road – Patrick Duff

Acid Country – Paul Heaton

Write About Love – Belle and Sebastian

Siamese – Craig Walker

Luck and Courage – Franz Nicolay

The Fool – Warpaint

Endlessly – Duffy

Overall I found a lot of great music in 2010. If I were forced to narrow it down to a top ten, it would probably be:

A-Z Volume 1 – Ash

Here Lies Love – David Byrne & Fatboy Slim

Ages – Lorraine Feather

Lonely Avenue – Ben Folds & Nick Hornby

The Men I Love – Barb Jungr

Love to Live – The Living Sisters

Heligoland – Massive Attack

Leave Your Sleep – Natalie Merchant

Crows – Allison Moorer

Volume 2 – She & Him
