Poetry: Day 20

Poetry doesn’t need to rhyme
Like rock and roll bands don’t need to mime
And who the hell still says “rock and roll”
In this day and age? I’d like to know
And now the month is halfway gone
A self-critic’s cat ate my poet’s tongue
I stare at pages of blank screen
I started counting, I’ve reached nine hundred and seventeen
And thanks to that last line, even the rhythm is shot
And the rhyme scheme?
Don’t even ask
But since when were consistency, or talent
Or theme or subject or craft
Important to the poet’s lot?
